Auf zum Lager 1

Hallo Freunde

da wir nicht immer so guten Empfang haben, kommen die Nachrichten nur spärlich. Am Samstag 23. April habe ich eine Verbindung in die Schweiz zu Radio Rottu hingekriegt. Das Interview findet ihr hier. Der Weg bis hier ins Advanced Base Camp war schon eine Herausforderung, doch nun geht es hoch an und auf den Berg. Am Sonntag sind wir zum Lager 1 aufgebrochen. Auf Grund der stürmischen Verhältnisse haben wir unser Lager etwas unterhalb der geplanten Position auf 6150 MüM eingerichtet. Nach dem obligaten Schneeabkochen, haben wir uns etwas gekocht und viel getrunken. In der Höhe ist der Flüssigkeitsbedarf viel höher als zu Hause. Wir müssen immer schauen, dass die Trinkflaschen voll sind. Wasser ist am Berg nur in Form von Schnee vorhanden. Somit sind wir viel am Schneeschmelzen mit unserem Kocher. Danach nochmal alle Leinen am Zelt kontrollieren und gut in den Schlafsack einwickeln. Während der Wind am Zelt rüttelt und die Temperaturen unter Minus 15 fallen, schlafen wir ein. Wieder ein Schritt näher am Gipfel und ein paar Höhenmeter mehr in der Akklimatisierungsphase. Noch kann man nicht sagen, wie das Wetter wohl in der Gipfelwoche werden wird...wir sind gespannt und arbeiten konzentriert auf unser Ziel hin.

as the satellite radio reception hasn't been the best recently, news are beeing sent sparsley. Saturday April 23th I managed to get a phonecall through to Radio Rottu in Valais. You find the interview here. The way to get here to the advanced basecamp already was challenging, but now it's time to get to and on the mountain. Sunday we began with the ascent to camp 1. Because of the stormy weather conditions up there, we decided to put up our tent at an altitude of approximately 6160m above sealevel, a bit below the originally planned position.  After the obligate snow melting procedure, we cooked something and were drinking lots of water. At this height one needs to drink a lot more liquids then back home. We always have to take care, that our drinkingbottles are well-filled. Most often, water on the mountain is only available in the form of snow, so we spend quite some time melting it with our cooker. After that, checking the guy ropes and snuggle deep into the sleeping bag. While the wind shakes and rattles the tent and the temperatures drop below minus 15 degrees celcius we fall asleep. Again a couple steps closer to the top and a few meter in altitude more in the acclimatisation phase. Still one can't tell how the weather is going to be in the week we plan to go for the top...we're curious and work concentrated towards our target.
